What does it mean to be AEGIS and BSA accredited?

We first achieved AEGIS accreditation in 2016 and joined the BSA accreditation scheme in 2020. Accreditation by both bodies means we are regularly reviewed on vital areas such as safeguarding, safer recruitment, staff training, host family vetting and liaison with schools. Schools and parents recognise these accreditations as external validation that practices meet rigorous standards.

When you choose Academic Families, you can be confident you are choosing a guardian provider that has been vetted, challenged and verified by two of the UK’s leading bodies in boarding education and student welfare.

How accreditation enhances our guardianship role

Safeguarding & Safety

Our staff, volunteers and host families all undergo full checks, including disclosure and barring Service (DBS) screening and are trained according to the highest standards.

Accreditation bodies have visited our office, interviewed staff, students and host families, and received positive feedback. Accreditation ensures that we keep processes transparent, robust and responsive to change.

Comprehensive support, verified

As an AEGIS and BSA accredited guardian, our services span everything your child will need – from airport assistance and escorted transfers, to pastoral, academic and emotional support, termly school visits and arranging host family stays during school breaks.

Because we are held to external standards, you can be confident that when emergencies arise such as cancellations, illness or unexpected challenges – we will act swiftly, competently and transparently.

Why accreditation should matter to you

Choosing a guardian is a decision that affects your child’s safety, wellbeing and school experience. Many boarding schools require that international students have an accredited guardian.
