Academic Families works with more than 450 schools throughout the UK, and we have become experts at matching children to the right boarding school for them in order to ensure each student thrives.
We're delighted to present one of our partner schools:
Wycliffe College in Gloucestershire, England.
“Inspire and educate every individual in mind, body and soul.”
Wycliffe prioritises that pupils are creative and innovative in their thinking, whilst nurturing the skills to aspire to leadership roles. Such ambitions are nurtured in an inclusive, safe, and stimulating environment that is conducive to learning – inside the classroom and beyond.
Wycliffe invests in both curriculum and staff development to ensure that pupils benefit from the best teaching and learning available. A broad and balanced curriculum gives pupils plenty of opportunities to try new subjects and discover where their interests and talents lie.
During the key GCSE 9-11 years, pupils can choose from 20 subjects, including rare options, such as Business and Japanese. There are 28 courses in the Sixth Form including A Levels and BTECs, and the Extended Project Qualification.
The Wycliffe experience is more than what happens in the classroom. They aim to nurture mind, body and soul through their diverse extracurricular programme. They offer a wide range of clubs - from traditional skills such as cooking to modern choices like Green Care Racing. With more than 60 activities running every week, pupils have the opportunity to stretch their ‘pioneering spirit’ and try something that they may never have considered before.
Wycliffe prepares their pupils to succeed and find their passions in an increasingly globalised world and encourages them to embrace their future as Global Citizens. A third of Senior and Prep school pupils are international, which allows pupils to share and learn from each other’s cultures. Wycliffe welcomes pupils from over 30 nationalities.
Boarding is available for both boys and girls across several boarding houses. The Prep school offers two boarding houses: Pennwood and Windrush. The houses offer a sense of community and belonging for boarders.
In the Senior School, there are three boys’ houses: Ward’s House, Robinson House and Haywardsfield; and three girls’ houses: Ivy Grove, Lampeter and Haywardsend. Loosley Halls is the Sixth Form house for boys and girls in Years 12 and 13.
Wycliffe is keen to ensure children have a home away from home when boarding. The rooms and facilities are designed to help children feel safe and secure as well as feel part of a community. All boarders will have their own space in a bedroom with a common room where they can take part in activities together or simply enjoy a bit of downtime.
Activities are planned on an almost daily basis which may include physical activities such as yoga, games nights and cooking. The activities aim to bring people together and children may even try out something they may not have thought about doing before. At weekends, the Prep boarding houses join together events such as Harry Potter-themed weekends, Record Breakers, laser tag and the Wycliffe bake-off. Older pupils often take trips to visit friends and family or for social events, as well as enjoying time on campus.
You'll probably have many questions about the exciting times that lie ahead. We are here to reassure you and support your decision to educate your child in the UK.
