About Oswestry School

Mission statement

“We strive to educate the whole child with an emphasis on their intellectual, spiritual and physical development.”

Academics

Oswestry School is dedicated to ensuring that their students’ education is the best it can be, with 50% of the graduating class of 2021 scoring A* or A grades, with the majority of students securing their first choice of university due to the school’s excellent careers guidance. In the same year, 38% of GCSE students’ grades were within the A*- A range. This demonstrates the care that the school and staff take to help students find their passions and achieve the best results possible. 72% of 2020 leavers continued on to a UK university, at destinations such as Reading, Manchester Metropolitan, Liverpool John Moores and Nottingham Trent.

Activities & sports

Whilst academia is important at Oswestry, they also believe that students should try as many things as possible in order to motivate them, with as many as 60 co-curricular activities available. The school has a reputation for the quality of sports teams that compete regionally and nationally, with their podium sports being rugby, football, cricket, athletics and tennis for boys and hockey, netball, cricket, athletics and tennis for girls. Students will have access to the expertise of the school’s coaching staff and their impressive sports facilities. The school is especially experienced in football and with over 170 students participating in 22 different teams across the school, everyone has the opportunity to play competitively. In fact, Oswestry School is partnered with the Football Association to improve the access and provisions of girls football in hopes of increased participation in the sport.

Additionally, opportunities exist for those interested in the arts, with a multitude of choirs, bands, orchestras, annual drama productions and clubs, lighting and sound training, dance clubs and experiences for art and design. The provisions for musicians are excellent, and Oswestry School ensures that music is accessible to every pupil. There are also a small number of music scholarships available for particularly talented musicians.

International student community

Oswestry welcomes international students from the age of 11, with around 100 children coming to boarding school from overseas. The school works with families to ensure the smoothest admissions and transition process into the school. Oswestry school expects that students have a certain level of English proficiency upon arrival in order to make full use of the education that they will be receiving. They also provide English learning support once a student is at the school, so that they can reach their full potential.

Boarding life

Oswestry has a tightknit and close boarding community of more than 100 boarders, many of whom are international students. The school strives to give the students a safe and caring environment where they are comfortable to explore what they are passionate about and what type of person they want to be. Boarding ensures that students get the help they need to complete work to a high standard and have access to a wide variety of co-curricular activities, making lifelong friendships with the people they live and go to school with.
