Academic Families works with more than 450 schools throughout the UK, and we have become experts at matching children to the right boarding school for them in order to ensure each student thrives.
We're delighted to present one of our partner schools:
Felsted Senior and Prep School in Essex, England.
“Felsted is a school that develops the character of every student, to help to prepare them for life beyond school.”
Felsted School helps students achieve excellent exam results, enabling them to go to some of the world’s top universities. In fact, pupils at Felsted achieve some of the best IB results in the UK – in 2022, pupils gained an average score of 36, which is higher than the global average of 31.98. Almost 20% of these students acquired an impressive score of 40 or above, with the highest-scoring student achieving 44 points in their IB diploma, out of the possible 45. This is an example of how the education provided at Felsted can take students far and instil within them the skills and knowledge that they will use for the rest of their lives. Popular university destinations after attending Felsted School include Durham, Exeter, Nottingham and Edinburgh.
Felsted believes that the formative years of a person’s life are some of the most important. That is why they make sure to provide students with a large array of options in their co-curricular programme. This helps the child find the interests that they wish to pursue, whether that be recreationally or competitively. The school boasts a number of choirs, orchestras, string ensembles and brass groups, as well as a partnership with the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The school also puts on a variety of productions and has art and drama co-curricular activities available using its excellent facilities, allowing students to explore their imagination and creativity.
Felsted has a reputation of having excellent sports programmes and competing both locally and nationally, as well as providing recreational sport activities. The core sports, and those that are most popular, include rugby, hockey, cricket and tennis for boys and hockey, netball, cricket and tennis for girls. Most students participate in competitive sports, with regular fixtures against other schools.
Felsted School also has a variety of equestrian opportunities. Prep School pupils can participate in group riding lessons as an after school activity once a week. In the Senior School, students have the chance to play Polo as one of the co-curricular activity options. Experienced horse riders at Felsted are often selected to compete for the school in equestrian competitions, such as in show jumping or dressage.
Felsted prides itself on welcoming students from overseas to receive an education at the school, with around 20% of students in Year 9 and above being international, amounting to over 120 pupils. The best years for international students to join Felsted are Year 7, 9, 10, and 12, but they also accept international pupils from as early as Year 5.
Boarding is at the heart of the Felsted experience, as living on site allows the children to benefit from the boarding culture and have the freedom to explore their interests outside of class. Additionally, an experienced member of staff will always be present should a student need something, as many staff members live on campus so that they can better get to know each individual and their needs in a way that cannot be achieved in a regular school day.
You'll probably have many questions about the exciting times that lie ahead. We are here to reassure you and support your decision to educate your child in the UK.
