Academic Families works with more than 450 schools throughout the UK, and we have become experts at matching children to the right boarding school for them in order to ensure each student thrives.
We're delighted to present one of our partner schools:
St Edward's School in Oxford, England.
“St Edward’s seeks to benefit the public by promoting and providing for the advancement of the education of children in a liberal and open community."
Pupils at St Edward’s are offered choices in their academic lives at every stage, ensuring they can develop intellectually in the areas that interest and inspire them. From the start, as well as an essential grounding in traditional disciplines, pupils choose additional subjects to study – from further languages, ancient and modern, to Drama, Ceramics and Computer Science. The choices continue at GCSE level where pupils can study, alongside GCSEs, bespoke interdisciplinary courses in a wide range of subjects. In the Sixth Form, pupils choose again between specialising in three to five A Levels or embarking on the broader approach of the International Baccalaureate.
Taking full advantage of Oxford’s community of world-class academics and the facilities of the university, St Edward's has a programme of “Oxford Days” which form part of a stimulating 'Super-Curriculum' to enhance the academic life of the school.
There is a vast array of co-curricular activities at St Edward's that pupils engage with enthusiastically. There are 22 sports to choose from, over 60 different clubs and societies run every term, over 500 individual music lessons and 100 extra-curricular drama lessons taught each week, there are choirs and musical ensembles for all levels, art shows and dance shows to perform in or watch.
Inspired by rowing on the same stretches of river as the Oxford University crews, St Edward's has always had a strong reputation for rowing and was recently named the Best School for Rowing by the Good Schools Guide. This accolade was based on the inclusive and encouraging approach of the boat club - and no doubt helped by taking home gold awards for both the top girls’ and boys’ crews in 2023 at the National Schools Regatta and winning at Henley the prestigious Princess Elizabeth Cup!
St Edward's welcomes pupils from around the world, creating a diverse environment for pupils with a broad mix of nationalities - 17% of pupils are international, from 41 different countries. There is an Overseas Parents’ Group which facilitates communication between parents of international students.
There are 13 boarding Houses, five for girls, four for boys and four that are co-educational in the Sixth Form. Around 85% of pupils board. The day pupils are fully integrated into the boarding house system and share rooms during the day with boarders. Pupils can go home on Saturday nights but many stay to enjoy the full programme of events for pupils at the weekend or just to spend time in Oxford with friends, enjoying the culture available in the city as well as the lively shopping centres and cafés.
You'll probably have many questions about the exciting times that lie ahead. We are here to reassure you and support your decision to educate your child in the UK.
