About St Clare's Oxford

Mission statement

“We are committed to our responsibilities to broaden perspectives through education. Our mission to ‘advance international education and understanding‘ underpins our approach within the teaching experience and epitomises our values of international-mindedness. With a shared focus, it creates a unique environment, where international awareness and respect for others is at the heart."

Academics

As one of the oldest IB schools in the world, St Clare’s Oxford provides a truly international learning experience. The small class sizes and specialist teaching ensures they are one of the UKs best IB schools. In 2022 they boasted a 100% pass rate for the graduating class, with an average IB score of 36.3 (compared to a global average of 31 points) and 25% of students scoring over 40 points. School leavers progress onto study at some of the world's top Universities, including Oxbridge, Colombia, Toronto and University of Southern California.

Activities & sports

As part of the IB program, St Clare’s requires students to participate in the Creativity Activity Service (CAS) program, with each student expected to take part in a sport, creative club, and service activity. The wide range of options include sports such as basketball, netball and tennis, creative clubs like choir, cooking and theatre, and community projects including human rights action groups, student council and working as a teaching assistant. The school runs co-curricular activities including various trips and excursions and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. These options enrich the student experience and prepare pupils for life beyond school.

International student community

With over 40 countries represented by the current student body, 90% of St Clare’s student population are international. The school make continuous efforts to reflect on their responsibility towards diversity and inclusion, putting concepts like cultural awareness and respect for others at the centre of their academic courses so that students develop values that are in line with the school’s own beliefs. Additionally, they provide English language courses that help to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for non-native English speakers. Furthermore, the school offers several pre-university courses to help international students achieve University places at some of the world’s top ranking tertiary teaching institutions.

Boarding life

St Clare’s school offers a safe and nurturing boarding environment, with a houseparent available 24/7 in each residence to ensure optimal student wellbeing. The school has a dedicated team of staff that welcome students to help them feel at home and become quickly immersed into student life. Due to the international nature of the school, boarding students will be living with people from many different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. This promotes diversity and exposes students to different ideas and life experiences, preparing them for life after school.
