Our school has a long history of specialising in girls’ education and we are proud of our reputation as a kind, supportive and academically excellent school located in Bath. Academics

Royal High School Bath has an impressive cutting-edge and forward-thinking academic curriculum, offering students a specialist girls’ only education. Students achieve some of the highest examination results in Bath.

In 2022, 60.7% of GCSE results were at the A* level, with 96% of grades being a C or above. In the same year, 100% of A-Level students achieved grades A-E, with 83.6% of grades at level B or above. In the IB programme, students achieved an average point score of 37 against a global average of 31.4; the school has also been selected as a ‘Top 50 Global IB School’ and a 'Top 20 IB School in the UK'. Students progress on to study at some of the UK's top universities, including Manchester, Birmingham and University College London.

Furthermore, the Aspire learning programme challenges and develops students through an ambitious co-curricular enrichment programme.

Activities & sports

The school’s co-curricular activities programme ensures that students achieve a healthy balance between their academic work and recreational activities. Students have access to school facilities that include their fitness suite, library, music school and recording studio. The students also have access to the Bath University Olympic standard sports facilities.

Royal High School Bath has a passion for music and is one of 250 schools globally that have achieved the prestigious Steinway award. Students have access to a £2 million state-of-the-art music school, including world-class Steinway and Sons pianos, masterclasses by Steinway artists, and over 35 performance opportunities throughout the year.

The school emphasises the value of sports for helping students achieve forward-thinking, positive behaviours. As such, students can partake in activities like netball, swimming, fencing and gymnastics, with opportunities to compete at local, national and international levels. Royal High School Bath also have a specialist dance studio that houses state-of-the-art equipment for dancers. GCSE dance students can take part in the annual Day of Dance event with schools throughout the UK, showcasing their talents. The school's annual Dance Show ensures all students can partake in the arts, by participating in both cast and crew roles.

International student community

Around 15% of students at the Royal High School Bath are international, which constitutes the majority of the school’s boarding population. The school offers extra support for students who are not fluent in English so that all students can develop an adequate proficiency level in English.

Boarding life

The school encourages individuality, shaping students into empowered young women who are ready for the wider world. The boarding experience at Royal High School Bath is an integral part of this process, containing a truly diverse and multi-cultural boarding community that teaches students acceptance and independence.

The school’s two boarding houses accommodate 140 students and provide common rooms, social spaces and quiet study areas. Older students are offered the independence and freedom to organise their own timetables; increased privacy is also enhanced with students choosing single or twin rooms. House mistresses are dedicated to creating a positive and safe environment for the girls, as their well-being is the school’s primary concern. An extensive well-being programme ensures each student feels supported and cared for throughout their boarding experience.
