Academic Families works with more than 450 schools throughout the UK, and we have become experts at matching children to the right boarding school for them in order to ensure each student thrives.
We're delighted to present one of our partner schools:
Rookwood School in Hampshire, England.
"To inspire all in our community to dare to know and to be the very best version of themselves."
At Rookwood School, we are committed to delivering academic excellence through high expectations, appropriate stretch, and targeted support, enabling every pupil to fulfil their potential from Early Years to Sixth Form. We aim to develop metacognitive, independent learners by equipping pupils with the tools to think deeply, reflect critically, and take ownership of their learning. Our approach is grounded in evidence-informed practice, with teaching and learning guided by the latest research and ongoing professional development.
At GCSE level in 2024, students achieved grades well above the national average, with 97% of students achieving five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and Maths. We are delighted that 36% of our grades were at Grade 7 or above, compared to a UK national average of 21.8%. With 93% of all grades at Grade 4 or above, compared to a national average of 67.6%, we were delighted with the progress of all students.
At A Level in 2024, we were delighted to achieve an excellent set of A level results following the launch of Sixth Form in September 2021. Non-selective at entry, the Sixth Form offers a diverse range of A Level choices to cater to the broad aspirations of our students. We were pleased to share that 47% of grades achieved were between A and C. Students have secured first-choice offers at a range of universities including University of Reading, Royal Holloway (University of London), Cardiff University, and University of Winchester.
At Rookwood School, pupils enjoy a vibrant and varied programme of sport and co-curricular activities designed to develop confidence, teamwork, and uncover new talents. From traditional team sports such as football, rugby, and netball to individual pursuits like swimming, athletics, and tennis, there is something for everyone. Beyond the sports field, pupils can explore a wide range of clubs and activities - including music, drama, art, debating, coding, and outdoor education - ensuring every child has the opportunity to discover new passions and develop their talents.
Currently, our Boarding community consists mostly of British children, however, we are beginning to welcome different nationalities including students from Holland, Singapore and Iran. We understand that adjusting to life in a new country - and a new language - can be daunting. Rookwood offers tailored English as an Additional Language (EAL) support for international students who need it.
Our Houses can accommodate up to 28 boarders aged 7 to 16 who sleep in dorms of two or three upstairs across two charming residential properties. The downstairs rooms of both houses are shared and include a games room, computer room, sitting and dining rooms as well as the kitchen which is the hub of our boarding home. The two gardens are merged into one large open expanse for the children to enjoy especially during the summer months.
Boarders at Rookwood enjoy a varied and engaging evening and weekend programme designed to promote relaxation, friendship, and fun outside of the classroom. Evenings offer a balance of structured activities—such as baking, arts and crafts, movie nights, and sports in the gym—with time for study, socialising, and winding down. At weekends, pupils take part in a range of trips and on-site events, including visits to local attractions, shopping excursions, outdoor adventures, and themed nights in the boarding house. The programme is thoughtfully designed to create a homely, enjoyable environment where pupils can make lasting memories and feel part of a close-knit community.
You'll probably have many questions about the exciting times that lie ahead. We are here to reassure you and support your decision to educate your child in the UK.
