About Mount St Mary's College

Mission statement

“Inspiring young hearts and minds to go forth and set the world on fire”

Academics

Mount St Mary's has deliberately small class sizes, enabling teachers to work closely with students so they receive the very best from their education at the Mount. With expert study and career advice, students have the opportunity to make the best GCSE choices for their futures, and at the end of their two years, take on exciting new challenges in the Sixth Form and the world beyond. The Mount offers a wide range of GCSE courses from the sciences to performing arts, as well as EAL if students so require. The GCSE pass rate in 2023 was 99%, with 87% of these grades being A*- C.

A Levels and CTECs are studied at Sixth Form, and students can also choose to partake in the EPQ, and Arts Award. Sixth Form students participate in the Bellarmine Project, a series of thought-provoking lectures and seminars designed to encourage ethical and moral discussions about the world today. At A Level, students received a 99% pass rate in the Summer of 2023, 73% of which were A – C. CTEC students also achieved excellent results, with 100% pass rates and over 40% at distinction level. 75% of EPQ students received an A*- A in the most recent set of public examinations.

Activities & sports

The Mount has an excellent academic programme, which is complemented by the co-curricular activities available to students each day. There is an array of options, from chess and robotics to strength and conditioning in a health and fitness centre.

There are specialist tutors for sports, music and theatre, as well as a nationally renowned CCF programme. The varied sporting teams regularly win their fixtures and place high in tournaments. They are also now a PSG Training Academy for all young budding footballers.

The Mount stage musical and theatrical shows at least annually, and students are always in attendance to support their peers, just as they would cheer from the sidelines of a sports pitch.

The Mount is set in 250 acres of beautiful countryside, which provides the backdrop for the Olympic-sized athletics track, rugby and football pitches, cricket wickets, and cross-country routes.

International student community

The alumni sees many countries and cultures mixing; giving students a wider view of the world. A quarter of students are boarders, the majority of which are international students.

They encourage students to share their own cultures with others, and boarding houses regularly host themed evenings, each one run by the students themselves and focusing on a different nationality.

Boarding life

Boarding at the Mount is a home away from home. The rooms provide every home comfort and aspect of modern-day living. Younger students typically share 2 – 3 per room and are given their own rooms in the upper school for privacy and study. Boarding Parents create a welcoming and nurturing environment for each student who joins us.

The college and campus are a five-minute drive from J30 of the M1; putting The Mount within easy reach of airports like East Midlands, Manchester, and Leeds.

There are weekly excursions and activities including cinema outings, visits to country parks and sporting events. Weekends are spent together, either watching sporting fixtures, or out on excursions. The Mount does not offer exeat weekends.
