About Leighton Park School

Mission statement

“In keeping with its Quaker values, the school aims to inspire achievement, with values, character and community, and to develop the qualities in young people that will help them to reach their greatest potential: to become global change-makers of the future.”

Academics

Leighton Park School has a history of academic excellence and is one of the best schools in the UK for academic success in Sixth Form. This is due to their holistic student-focused approach to education, encouraging students to develop a love of learning that will stay with them for life. This is demonstrated by the exam results achieved by pupils every year, with 72% of A Level grades falling within the A* - A range and 93% of grades at B or above in 2021. Additionally, IB students achieved an average score of 35.5, more than two points above the global average. Six students of that year’s cohort achieved 40 points or more, with a top score of 43.

In the same year, 95% of students went on to a Higher Education institution, with many attending Russell Group universities like King’s College London, the London School of Economics, Birmingham, Exeter and Edinburgh, among others. However, it is not only in Sixth Form that the Leighton Park students thrive, as in GCSE more than half of all grades were an A or A* and 95% were a C or above.

Activities & sports

Leighton Park produces top athletes, many of which compete at county, regional and national levels, with the most popular sports being football, rugby, athletics and cricket for boys and netball, hockey, tennis and swimming for girls. Whilst the school provides excellent facilities for competitive sporting students at Leighton Park, it also provides many opportunities for recreational sports. Approximately 30 different sports are on offer, ensuring that there is something for everyone. This is possible due to the impressive sporting facilities at Leighton Park including a 10-acre field, an Astroturf, more than 20 tennis courts, a 25m indoor swimming pool, indoor gymnasium and 2 indoor fitness centres.

Aside from sport, Leighton Park excels in music. The music department caters for all music styles, giving students the freedom to explore different genres and instruments as well as having access to a state-of-the-art digital recording studio and editing suites. The school is a Yamaha Music Education Partner and is the only school in Europe to have this status, enabling it to provide students with the resources they need to thrive. This includes access to a range of instruments and exclusive teaching materials, as well as specialised training for staff so that they can give students the best musical education possible. The school has many opportunities for students to perform, with three choirs, an orchestra, brass, guitar, strings and woodwind, and jazz ensembles. They also host inter-house competitions and musical productions along with an end of the year performance. The school has 27 music teachers, and more than half of students study an instrument.

Leighton Park also offers excellent opportunities for pupils who are aspiring dancers. The school has a specialist dance teacher with pupils participating regularly in competitions, masterclasses and showcase events. Dance is also offered as a subject at GCSE and A Level for those students who want to take their dancing education a step further.

International student community

Leighton Park welcomes students from almost 40 countries, making the school a diverse place to study. To ensure a smooth transition for international students coming from overseas into the British school system, the school provides English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes.

Boarding life

Leighton Park School’s boarding community is a home away from home for many students, cultivating a close community where students support each other. The dedicated and caring boarding staff ensure that students always have someone to go to as they cater to the individual needs of every boarder. The excellent boarding and school facilities mean that students have their own study spaces to finish homework, common rooms in which to socialise with friends, and are provided with healthy and nutritious meals every day so that they are energised and ready for each school day.
