About Harrogate Ladies' College

Mission statement

“I Am Me: Giving Girls the Confidence to Take on the World.”

Academics

The school has strong academic results. Girls are taught in small class sizes by excellent and committed teachers who help the girls to achieve the best results they possibly can. Learning is stimulating and interactive and students are encouraged to think, learn and study independently.

Typically, 75% of pupils receive offers from the UK’s top Russell Group universities. In 2023, the school celebrated outstanding A level results with 50% more top A* grades than the comparable 2019 results. Over 50% of all A* grades were achieved in STEM related subjects.

The school has specialist programmes to support pupils for pupils who wish to follow careers in Medicine and Veterinary Science.

Activities & sports

The school offers over 50 clubs and activities each week covering everything from Music, Drama, and Sport, to Science, Languages, Literature, Business and Charity.

Sports offered by the school include Netball, Football, Tennis, Swimming, Dance, Horse riding, Athletics and Lacrosse.

International student community

The school is really proud of the cultural diversity international pupils bring its community. Pupils at the school come from over 25 different countries around the world including Africa, South & North America, Asia and across Europe. International students make up around 45% of our school community.

Extensive EAL support is available where required from our experienced EAL team.

Boarding life

The school has 4 separate boarding houses, which were all originally family homes and still retain a family feel today. The Good Schools Guide described the school’s boarding houses as the “warmest boarding environment we have come across”. Each boarding house is a true “home away from home” with space to study, to relax and to socialise.

There is a full programme of weekend trips offering a wide variety of social, cultural and educational activities.
