About Culford School

Mission statement

“To unlock the full potential of every pupil.”

Academics

Culford strives to create learning experiences that are highly personalised and tailored to the needs of individual students. The school believes that those students who enjoy their studies and have a genuine interest will excel, and so they utilise active learning techniques to ensure pupils are always engaged and involved during lessons.

Their pass rate at A Level has been above 98% for the past 5 years. In 2021, 75% of GCSE results were A* - B.

Activities & sports

Culford School offers plentiful opportunities for students to get involved beyond the classroom. Culford's excellent sporting facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, indoor cricket nets, a golf studio, an indoor climbing wall and outdoor facilities for netball, hockey, cricket, tennis golf and rugby. The core sports at Culford School are rugby, hockey, netball, football and cricket but the school also provides opportunities in dancing, horse riding, scuba diving and basketball. Sport can be participated in at a recreational level or at a competitive level. As well as academic societies and creative clubs such as drama and dance, Culford runs an active Combined Cadet Force which students can participate in weekly.

Culford School has opportunities for everyone within the performing and creative arts - whether it be your first time picking up a musical instrument or whether you're a talented musician who wants to take part in bands, ensembles or choirs.

Classes usually finish at 3.30pm after which time students are able to participate in a wide range of clubs and activities - anything from jazz band to bee keeping! Culford School also organises a number of trips abroad - both educational trips as well as sports tours. Past destinations have included Spain, Italy and Portugal, as well as their annual trip to Tenerife for pupils to work towards scuba diving qualifications.

International student community

Culford currently has pupils from over 25 different nationalities enrolled and the school is committed to ensuring all students feel welcome and at home.

A one-year Pre-GCSE course is also available for Year 9 students who may want extra time to adjust to life at British boarding school. The course is run by expert teachers and helps to set up international students for success at GCSE and beyond.

Boarding life

The majority of boarding students at Culford are full boarders and the school doesn't have compulsory exeat weekend breaks. As a result, boarding life is busy and full of activity options including go-karting, bowling, theatre visits and trips into surrounding areas such as Cambridge.
