The school offers a wide variety of subjects including Latin, Greek, Music, Drama, Art, Design and outdoor education. An important part of the curriculum is the use of computers in ICT and the school uses technology to assist the children’s learning. Student's academic progress is closely monitored by teaching staff and through regular assessments to ensure that each child reaches their potential and gets the best educational experience possible. All of this equips the children with the skills necessary to excel in a range of senior schools, including some of the UK's leading public and private schools, once they leave Cargilfield. Leavers' destination schools include Eton, Rugby, Uppingham, Strathallan, Fettes and Stuart’s Melville.
Sport is an important part of the Cargilfield curriculum and pupils can compete for the school at both regional and national level in sports such as rugby, hockey, netball and rounders. Games are available every afternoon for all students and teams compete against other schools every week. Pupils have received medals in fencing, judo and climbing at regional and national competitions, and teams frequently participate in National Hockey finals.
Music is a central part of life at Cargilfield, with strong participation at all levels and alumni have received scholarships at prestigious secondary schools in recognition of their talents. The school encourages children to learn an instrument and perform from a young age. Cargilfield has a range of choirs, bands and orchestras for all students. Aside from sport and music, there are more than 50 afterschool clubs children can join allowing pupils to explore their passions and interests.
The school promotes multiculturalism in its student community, teaching tolerance and encouraging a positive attitude towards international children. They also provide English as an additional language for students whose first language is not English. The children’s English competency is advanced by involving them fully in the student community, ensuring pupils can make the most out of Cargilfield’s outstanding prep education.

Boarders are supported by a team of committed boarding staff who aim to create a home away from home environment and a strong evening club programme means that there is always something going on.
