About Bede's School

Mission statement

“Where every child finds joy in their pursuit of brilliance.”

Academics

Bede’s School follows the GCSE curriculum and then offers Sixth Form students the choice between studying for A Level exams or BTEC qualifications. The school caters the education programme to each individual student, rather than expecting every pupil to adopt the same learning techniques. The school's variety of BTEC subjects makes them one of the best boarding schools for BTEC in the UK. Some options include business, media production, psychology, sport, performing arts and animal management - their on-site zoo provides pupils with the facilities to thrive.

Their core subjects are english, science, maths and languages. They also provide all students with the opportunity to study a great variety of additional subjects such as creative & performing arts, humanities, technology & media, and sport.

In 2021, 83% of A Level exam results were between A* and B, and 45% of leavers went on to attend Russell Group universities.

Activities & sports

Bede’s School focuses on educating the whole person. There are more than 100 extra-curricular clubs and activities for pupils to choose from – these clubs encompass things such as the performing and visual arts, sport, outdoor activities and volunteering. Within the performing arts, Bede’s School has its own Dance Academy which is led by world-class dance professionals.

The on-site zoo at Bede's School houses more than 70 different species (including snakes, monkeys, meerkats, chipmunks and owls) and the school is a recognised Educational Associate with the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. If your child is an animal lover, then this school is perfect for them!

Their excellent sporting facilities are available for pupils of all ages and sporting levels. The core sports at Bede’s are cricket, football, and hockey but there is the opportunity to compete in sports such as basketball, netball, swimming and tennis. Bede's offers sport academies for all their core sports as well as a Tennis Academy, which is run by a former Great Britain player.

International student community

Bede’s School aims for international students to become completely integrated into British school life. The school has a leading EAL department (English as an Additional Language) and supports international pupils in becoming fluent in English. Bede’s hopes to offer pupils a truly British experience and organises busy weekends full of trips and activities for full-time boarders.

Boarding life

Almost 40% of pupils at Bede’s School are boarders, in ten boarding houses, each of which is run as its own family unit. Boarders at Bede’s have access to the school's amazing facilities out of school hours.

Furthermore, Bede’s organises a wide variety of weekend trips for full-time boarding students. Weekend activity options include going to the theatre, bowling, the cinema and going out for dinner. There are also outdoor activities to try such as paddle boarding, target rifle shooting, and mountain biking. Trips further afield include London, Thorpe Park and Brighton.
