Finding the best university match for your future

Not all higher education institutions in the UK follow the same curriculum or teaching style, as each nation—England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland—has its own approach to higher education. For example:

  • Most undergraduate degrees in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are typically three years long, although some subjects (such as engineering, medicine, or combined honours) can take longer.
  • Meanwhile, Scottish undergraduate degrees are typically four years long, similar to the U.S. higher education system. Before specialising, your first two years are often spent studying a range of subjects and broadening your critical thinking skills. This flexibility can be appealing to students who are not entirely sure what degree major or career path they want to focus on.

Our 6 step process for UK higher education enrolment

Complete our contact form to get in touch.

Our Higher Education Admissions Specialist will schedule a video call with you to review your registration. We will cover two main areas:

The Basics

  • We explain the UK higher education selection and application process.
  • We get to know you, your strengths, personality and academic needs.
  • You’ll need to start gathering official documents such as a passport and financial guarantee statements.

Academics

  • You upload recent school reports into our secure online portal for our review.
  • You may be asked to take a preliminary English language level proficiency exam or share your score from a recent exam (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, DuoLingo, etc.).

We carefully select the best matched higher education institutions (HEIs) that fit your profile and requirements.

Together, we will discuss your options and revise our suggestions if needed.

Your final list will include five HEIs to apply to.

You'll apply through the UCAS system (Universities and Colleges Admissions Services).

We provide you with tips and practice sessions as you get ready for upcoming visa interviews or any assessment interviews with your chosen institutions.

As you receive offers, we’ll help you review them and confirm your preferred university. If you need to apply to additional universities using the Extra process or Clearing, we will continue to offer our support and guidance.

We'll also remind you of deadlines to ensure you inform institutions of your decisions in a timely fashion and arrange for tuition deposit payments.

You can apply for your student visa six months before your course start date, or sooner if wait times are excessive. If you haven't already done so, Academic Families can also support you with the visa application process and visa interview preparations.

Before you start at your chosen university, we can also help you in your search for student accommodation and transport to your new home in the UK.

Getting to know you and your education goals

It’s best to begin looking for a university about 18 months before enrolment, but late applications can still be placed.

Your first step is to contact us so we can understand what you are looking for, and then create a customised plan just for you.
