Academic Families works with more than 450 schools throughout the UK, and we have become experts at matching children to the right boarding school for them in order to ensure each student thrives.
We're delighted to present one of our partner schools:
Rossall Senior and Prep School in Lancashire, England.
“It is our mission to inspire young people to develop a life-long love of learning within a pastorally nurturing, culturally exciting and intellectually creative community.”
Rossall School offers a very broad curriculum within which students study GCSE qualifications, followed by the choice of A Levels, an A Level and BTEC combination, or the IB diploma in Sixth Form. The wide range of subjects and qualifications that are available at Rossall allows pupils to follow whichever curriculum is most suited to their interests, skills and abilities. Rossall takes pride in their academic programme and in the results that their students achieve. In 2022, 33% of the A Level results awarded were A* – A, and 58% were A* – C. In the same year, 25% of IB students achieved 40 points or higher in the IB diploma (the world average is 32 points and the highest possible score is 45 points).
This success in school enables pupils to continue on to universities across the UK and around the world. Some recent university destinations include Imperial College London, Loughborough, Manchester, Leeds and University College London (UCL). With Rossall School’s outstanding facilities for football and golf, an increasing number of students are offered football or golf scholarships at prestigious universities in the USA.
Rossall School has a wide and varied co-curricular programme with many opportunities for students to participate in activities outside school hours. The school believes that by encouraging pupils to try new things and discover their interests, they will become more well-rounded individuals. For example, Rossall offers a multitude of opportunities within the performing arts. The school runs a small number of musical or theatrical academies, including their new Broadway Academy of Performing Arts and the International Piano Academy for particularly talented musicians. Furthermore, as an All-Steinway school, Rossall provides students with world-class instruments. There are also many theatrical productions for pupils to participate in, and students can fill roles as directors, writers, technicians, designers and actors, with the state-of-the-art performing arts studio acting as the perfect venue for students to thrive.
Rossall also has an extensive sports programme, with particularly impressive opportunities available in football and golf. The school’s partnership with Fleetwood Town Football Academy, a professional English Football League Club, ensures that young talent at the school is recognised. This gives aspiring young footballers the chance to train in one of the best sports complexes in the Northwest of England. The school is also home to the top independent school Golf Academy, with excellent facilities that allow students to perfect their game with the help of professional golfers.
Rossall School welcomes students from over 70 countries across the world, with approximately 30% of students coming from overseas. English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons are available to pupils who require them, and Rossall offers students the opportunity to complete internationally recognised English language exams such as the IELTS. Rossall’s EAL classes cater to all international students, helping them make the most of the education that Rossall provides.
Rossall provides a supportive and comfortable boarding experience, where students can make life-long friends as they settle in and become part of the tight-knit boarding community. The facilities and accommodation at Rossall ensure that students have access to everything they need to thrive at Rossall. There are 10 boarding houses at Rossall – 7 for Senior School pupils, and 3 for Prep School pupils.
