Brighton College offers pupils a balanced curriculum, preparing students for GCSE and A Level exams. Pupils are supported, by teachers and house tutors, to become confident learners and are encouraged to take part in independent study and give presentations. There is even the opportunity to study an entrepreneurship programme. In fact, Brighton College was the first independent school to introduce entrepreneurship into its curriculum.
Students at Brighton College achieve impressive results with 99% of pupils gaining A*AB results at A Level and 96% gaining A*A results at GCSE. After studying at Brighton College, around 20% of pupils are offered places at Oxford or Cambridge every year, and more than 650 students receive offers from Russell Group universities. Top destinations (other than Oxford and Cambridge) include Bristol, UCL, Exeter, Edinburgh and Durham.
Brighton College believes that academia and co-curricular activities go hand in hand, with one complementing the other. Sport plays an important role at Brighton College, and their world-class sporting facilities reflect this. The school believes that sport is for everyone and hopes that all pupils enjoy getting involved in sport, regardless of their ability. Teachers and coaches dedicate time to supporting pupils to develop their ability, whether they be beginners or experienced athletes. Within sport, Brighton College is particularly strong for rugby. They have 20 boys' teams and former pupil Marcus Smith now plays for the England team.
Brighton College also encourages involvement in the arts, and pupils can participate in a multitude of music, dance, art and drama events each year. Furthermore, there are more than 100 co-curricular clubs and activities at Brighton College, so every student has the chance to get involved.
Brighton College is home to international pupils from all over the world, and the main points of entry for overseas students are Year 9 (13+) and Year 12 (16+). Pupils who do not speak English as their first language must attend EAL lessons (English as an Additional Language) until their English meets the level that is necessary to apply to universities in the UK.
Brighton College possesses 6 boarding houses, and boarding students contribute significantly to the community feel of the school. In each boarding house, a team of specialised live-in staff ensure that every pupil feels supported. Activities are organised in the evenings and at weekends (such as paintballing and go-karting), and there is the potential to access sports facilities during these times.
